Artist Biography

Steven Tran

Steven Tran is a contemporary artist and performer. He is currently undertaking an ArtLife Residency at Footscray Community Arts, a program which supports artists with disability to work towards ambitious and high-impact public projects.

Steven’s work features bright colours and intricate patterns, building structure and new worlds with his own sets of rules and regulations. He works across the senses, often making art about music and movement. Steven derives inspiration from his favourite songs, patterns he sees in nature and the architecture of buildings from the urban environment in which he lives.

Steven’s work has featured in group shows for West Projections Festival and Due West Arts Festival in 2019, where he exhibited drawings for group site activation, “Sometimes I Just Miss Hearing Their Voice”. During Melbourne’s extended lockdown in 2020, Steven co-curated exhibition, ARISING, a virtual and on-site exhibition showing work from 32 artists. Steven produced his first solo exhibition, BOLD in 2021, where he took the opportunity to experiment and deepen his ideas with a new series of paintings and drawings.
